The Last Samurai
This is one of those movies I wasn't expecting to see at the theatres. But with 40$ in movie money and my date NOT wanting to go see Cheaper by the Dozen, I had no choice really. My expectations weren't high because frankly I think Tom Cruise is just getting too over-rated. I'd also rather see Tommy with a Cocktail glass in his hand rather than a samurai sword. But holy frig boys, this was a good freakin' flick. Tons of action. And good action. Semi-gore, but nothing to spew over. It has the same kind of general plot as Braveheart and The Patriot; one over-achieving-fights-like-bejesus white man trying to save his family/community from the evil-doers. But it was given the Asian twist. And it worked very well. It almost felt like I was watching a National Geographic documentary on an ancient civilization. The music was well used and kind of brought you into a dreamy-like mode while watching Tom meditate and find his inner Buddah. The one part I did not appreciate, was that the theatre workers must have changed The Last Saumurai poster to The Cat in the Hat between the time I walked in and the time I went to the bathroom at mid-movie. So here I was coming back from the B-room and me lost in the hallways of the big Studio 8 looking like a retard because I can't find my movie. I thought I was trippin' out on crack or something. Or was just having a bad dream. Ah well, after a couple walk-ins to other movies playing, I finally found it. My suggestion is that they don't change posters until the movie is over.
