The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
When I heard this movie was being released I was very excited yet very scared at the same time. As a reader of the books, I understand that it would be impossible to make this movie even close to as good as the book. I heard lots of bad reviews and such, but I thought I'd give it a chance. And I must say, I quite enjoyed it. Obviously there were parts missing, and they created a love story between between Arthur and Trillian (which was kind of disappointing) but for what was done, it was quite enjoyable. And funny. Real funny. It helped to have read the books to get some of the humor though. I especially LOVED the opening scene with the Dolphin number. And not only because of my undying love and obsession for dolphins, but the song they sang was GREAT. "So long and thanks for all the fish!" Download it if you can. It's wonderful. Sam Rockwell did a good job of playing Zaphod Beeblebrox, and I thought he played the character very close to what I imagined he would be like. A cocky sonufabitch. The greatest comic relief of the film however was Marvin, the depressed robot played by none other than the Sheriff of Nottingham himself, Alan Rickman. Just plain funny. And cute. I was also pleased that the creatures (eg: vogons) that I figured were going to be crappy computer graphics, were actually real life robots/ puppets! That earned some respect in my books cause I'm so freakin' sick of crappy computer graphics. Anywho, If you havent seen it, read it first. You will love the book if you're up for nonsense. And remember...Don't Panic.
